About the doctor – lek. Piotr Dyrda

A specialist in gynaecology and obstetrics, assistant at the Obstetrics and Gynaecology Ward of the Hospital in Pyskowice. During his hospital work he gained experience in vaginal surgery – including procedures for urinary incontinence – and in the treatment of endometriosis, also using endoscopic methods (among others with argon plasma). He also performs plastic surgery of the vagina and vulva.

A certified colposcopist and member of the Polish Society of Colposcopy and Cervical Pathophysiology. He holds a PTKiPSM certificate confirming practical skills in cervical cancer screening, including colposcopy with biopsy. He deals with the causal treatment of infertility and menstrual cycle disorders, and completed the FEMM (Fertility Education and Medical Management) course. He takes part in courses and training in Poland and abroad.

Infertility treatment

The starting point is the diagnosis of the causes of infertility, which may concern either the woman or the man. The doctor takes a history, orders tests and, on that basis, plans management directed at the cause rather than only at the symptoms.

In women, one of the methods used in ovulation disorders is ovulation stimulation (hormonal treatment). It may be considered, among others, in the absence of ovulation, irregular cycles, corpus luteum insufficiency, endometriosis or thyroid diseases, as well as when the cause of infertility cannot be clearly established. The choice of management depends on the diagnosis and is preceded by a detailed history and tests.

Pregnancy care

Pregnancy requires regular care and ongoing contact with a doctor. Some patients insured under the National Health Fund (NFZ) choose to have their pregnancy managed in a private practice because of faster access to appointments and continuity of care.

Treatment of urinary incontinence

Urinary incontinence affects not only women around the menopause but also young mothers and physically active people. The most common form is stress urinary incontinence (SUI), associated with weakening of the pelvic floor muscles – symptoms appear on exertion, coughing, sneezing or laughing. Stretching of the muscles after childbirth may also be a cause.

Management depends on the cause and severity of the complaints and is determined after a medical assessment. Among the minimally invasive methods used in aesthetic gynaecology, radiofrequency is one option. The scope and indications are discussed during the consultation.

Aesthetic gynaecology

Aesthetic gynaecology procedures concern both the appearance of the intimate area and comfort and function. Changes within the vagina and labia may result, among others, from previous pregnancies and deliveries, hormonal fluctuations during menopause and past illnesses. The most frequently reported problems include:

• vaginal dryness,
• enlargement of the labia,
• urinary incontinence,
• postpartum damage,
• sensory disturbances within the vagina,
• laxity and ageing of the skin of the intimate area.
