Information on the impact of the activity carried out by the organisational unit on human health and the environment

Legal basis: the Atomic Law Act (Journal of Laws 2021, item 623), in accordance with Art. 32c(2).

Devices generating ionising radiation

The following devices generating ionising radiation are present in the unit:

  • a device for intraoral radiographs, CS 2100 by Carestream – DECISION No. 460/2019 of 10 October 2019;
  • a device for panoramic radiographs, PaX-i by Vatech – DECISION No. 111/2019 of 22 February 2019.

Permits and measurements

The unit holds a permit for commissioning the X-ray Laboratory – DECISION No. 459/2019 of 10 October 2019.

Before commissioning the X-ray Laboratory, the unit had measurements taken of the distribution of the X-ray dose around the device. On the basis of the results it was found that the limit dose of ionising radiation does not exceed 1 mSv/year for publicly accessible rooms and 3 mSv/year for laboratory rooms outside the surgery.

Supervision and inspection

The unit is subject to inspection by the Silesian State Provincial Sanitary Inspector in Katowice, 40-957 Katowice, ul. Raciborska 39 – Radiation Hygiene Department.

At the same time, in accordance with the Regulation of the Council of Ministers of 30 November 2020 on the protection against ionising radiation of external workers exposed during work in a controlled or supervised area (Journal of Laws 2020, item 2313) and the Regulation of the Council of Ministers of 30 November 2020 amending the regulation on the detailed conditions for safe work with sources of ionising radiation (Journal of Laws 2020, item 2300), the X-ray Laboratory in this unit is a supervised area.

The unit monitors staff exposure using environmental dosimetry ID:899 – Institute of Nuclear Physics, Dosimetry Laboratory, ul. Radzikowskiego 152, 31-342 Kraków. The measured effective dose was below 6 mSv; the staff is classified in ionising-radiation exposure category "B".

Limit doses of ionising radiation

Regulation of the Council of Ministers on limit doses of ionising radiation (Journal of Laws 2005, item 168) – the permissible level of exposure to ionising radiation is:

  • workers: 20 mSv/year;
  • the general public: 1 mSv/year.

Note

  • on the basis of the measured and calculated doses, it is stated that the activity over the past 12 months had no negative impact on human health or the environment;
  • the X-ray Laboratory does not release any radioactive substances into the environment.
